String Quartets

String Quartet

This post takes a closer look at a String Quartet.

See the post about Chamber Music to find out where the String Quartet's inception came from.

What is a String Quartet?

A small ensemble, born in the Classical era of music, that consists of 2 Violins, a Viola and a Cello.

What does it do?

Plays pieces written specifically for String Quartet.

Where?

In the Classical Era: String Quartets performed in the homes of the aristocracy who employed composers, like Haydn, who worked in the court of Prince Nikolaus Esterhazy.
Post-Classical Eras: String Quartets give recitals in concert halls all over the world, playing the music written in the Classical era, and later.
In our communities: At weddings, functions and events as background music.
