Coloratura is the name given to a style of singing that is very ornamented, melismatic, and often super high pitched- like a cadenza for an opera singer. (except you don't get singing cadenzas - that's an instrumental concept and only here for comparison purposes!)
It was really popular in Classical Operas, like this aria here for coloratura soprano from the Magic Flute: Queen of the Night Aria - Mozart:
Technically, coloratura can apply to any opera singer who "fancies up" the aria in this way, but it's so commonly Soprano (highest female voice) singers that are the ones performing, the term "Coloratura Soprano" is used all the time.
This just means a soprano singer who has a really flexible voice that can handle coloratura singing. So it's quite likely that you'll be hearing a Soprano doing vocal acrobatics when you hear a Coloratura.
