Influences affecting the Baroque era:

Baroque, meaning "grotesque", architecture was pretty busy. Full of gargoyles, intricate details, ironwork and were often on a grand scale. The music of the era reflected this busy and overdone style with its' polyphonic texture and ornamentation.
